It was -1°C max today even though the sun was shining but venturing away from the warmth of the fireside was well worth it.
I was on my way to ‘The Old Barn’ bar and restaurant at Esholt to meet up with my art group for a festive lunch but nearly made myself late taking photographs in and around the pretty Yorkshire Dales village where Emmerdale used to be filmed.
The frozen landscape was still and magical so I was surprised to see running water through the trees as River Aire meandered by. The river looked quite black and lifeless amongst the blanket of white and the rising mist stayed low, too cold perhaps to make good its escape.
After standing still for just a short while, my breath and spectacles began to freeze onto my face so I made good my escape into the warmth of the restaurant. Not long after, I was sitting down with good friends, pulling giant crackers and tucking into a delicious, traditional Christmas dinner which I rated…… 10+
