Most of us are looking forward to the New Year and wishful thinking about a better year, usually relationship, health or wealth wise, but the truth of it is that most of us don’t get beyond transferring car tax and dentist appointments, birthdays and anniversaries on to a new calendar!
That alone is a major job for me and I invariably miss some important date, unintentionally of course, as my 2 pages to 1 week diary ends up chock-a-block with entries. I colour coded certain entries this year so I should be able to pick out the important stuff.
So…. getting back to resolutions for the New Year. Whether it's a 'quit list' or a 'to do list', it's not always easy to muster up the energy or enthusiasm that’s needed to first make a plan of action. Assuming we get this far, the really hard bit is then carrying it out as years of bad practice/addictions has allowed our mental conditioning to take control of our lives. It may for instance take up to 21 days of determination and disipline to change or form a new habit and a true additon taking a lot longer. If you can't kick a habit or start your exercise plan, rope someone else in too. For more serious problems, admitting you need help is the first step but don't stop there.... seek help!
For other plans of action, the secret to success is to set reasonable bite-sized goals and reach your destination step by step. Remember though to stay focused if you don’t want your lukewarm determination to freeze over by February.
My wish for me and for you for 2011 is that we make each day count, whether it’s towards beating a harmful addiction, making minor achievements or major plans in any area of our lives . Biding our time sometimes is good but years go by so quickly... let's not end up racing the clock!
Say ‘No’ to the ‘Same old same old’. It amazes me that people say that phrase with acceptance in their voice, when asked how things are?, and then change the subject.
We need to choose the right attitude, make some effort and be responsible for our own happiness. Let’s not let any opportunities in life pass us by. Face unwanted changes and challenges in life and turn them around.
Make things happen if you really, really want it and may you look forward to an exhilarating, free falling New Year.
May I also heed my own advice…..!
Best Wishes to you all for 2011
Peace and Light
