The Summer Solstice today has been the longest day ever for me but for more reasons than the obvious.
I wrote a ‘To Do’ list last night, mainly of sorting/filing paperwork and I also planned to halve my heaving wardrobe to regain some order about the place.
I was up and about for about 8am, breakfast was an unhurried yogurt sprinkled with Granola and a few cups of tea whilst checking emails and putting together final photos for articles to update my web pages in between my chores.
By 10am I was ready to start wading through the paperwork and it was TV off. I got lost in reading articles and generally just moving the paperwork around willy-nilly on the bed, the neat piles that was, now a sea of A4 and discarded envelopes. My recycling bag stuffed full and a pile ready for shredding….. and then it was nearly dinner time!
I dusted a book and opened it up where the bookmark lay three chapters in….. fatal! Still it was only 1.30 and time for lunch. Time to read another chapter and finish off those articles whilst my homemade pizza was under the grill. The pitta with cheese atop tomato chutney didn’t take long…. It was a new recipe dictated by a near empty ‘fridge.
I cleared a bit more but the tedious job warranted several cups of tea and a few ‘phonecalls later it was time to get back to it but no worries…. I’d got loads of time left.
By 4pm I could see my duvet…hurahhh! But the room was still up-side-down…doh! I was tired by then and hungry so I took another break and switched the TV on and that’s when it dawned…..! I knew it was the longest day today but not that my wall clock had been on a go-slow as well as me and finally did its last ‘tick’ at that twenty-to the hour point, the up-hill struggle just too much ‘tock’ for a duracell about to expire. The clock read 3.40 but in reality it was after 8pm. The evening was still light so no clues there.
It's nearly midnight now and order is restored.....kind of! I've got quite a bit done but it’s been the l-o-n-g-e-s-t day ever!!!!
